Kick-Start (U4 - U7)

Kick Start U4/U5 Rec Program (2013/2014 born)

The PMSC’s U4 program is designed to introduce 3 and 4-year-olds to the sport of soccer. Basic skills and confidence building will be taught through a series of games, drills, and activities led by Port Moody Soccer Club’s staff coaches.

The goal of the program is to introduce soccer in a fun way while building skill and preparing the toddler for the U5/U6 Kickstart program where a team practice and game take place weekly. Parents are welcome to assist at times throughout the hour long session to keep the toddler confident and comfortable. Four-year-olds who are not quite ready for the U6 program may also register. At the end of each U4 program season, a mini jamboree will be introduced to let the toddlers demonstrate all they have learned throughout the sessions.

The program will be offered in two 10-week sessions – a fall and winter session. Practices will take place at the Westhill Lacrosse Box (College Park near Westhill Pool).

Sessions are co-ed. A jersey will be provided for your child to wear to each session.

Your child will need the following:

  • Running shoes (soccer cleats are not safe on the Westhill Lacrosse Box sport flooring)
  • Shin pads
  • Water bottle

Kick Start U5 - U7 Program (2011 - 2013 born)

The Kick Start program offers an introduction to team-based sport. Players will be placed onto a team with a coach and will participate in a weekly coach-led practice and weekly game against another Kick Start team. The focus is on fun and players will work on basic soccer skills, team development, social interactions, and confidence. Players will have equal playing time and try all positions.

Our U5 and U6 players play together on mixed teams comprised of U5 and U6 players, and our U7 players play on teams comprised of only U7 players.

We offer both a boys and girls division. Boys play on Saturdays and girls play on Sundays. Girls are welcome to play in the boys’ division if they wish.

Our Kick Start players practice in local gyms for one hour – thus practices could be any of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening depending on the gym selected by your child’s coach. Gym selection happens in mid-August once the school district confirms our gym bookings.

Games are one hour in duration, comprised of a warm up period plus (2) 20-minute halves. Throughout the season a special Jamboree event or technical training session may be offered in lieu of the weekly game – more information to come.

Teams are formed in mid-July through early August once coaches have been confirmed. Players who register prior to the rostering process will be placed on teams with other children from their neighbourhood (as requested in your child’s registration). Special requests to be paired with a friend can be considered prior to our June 15 registration deadline. Requests for teams to remain together or multiple players to play together cannot be accommodated.

Each player will be provided a team jersey, soccer shorts, and soccer socks – this uniform may be worn for practices and is required for all games. In the event of cold weather during games, uniforms should be worn over top of jackets, and toques and gloves are permitted.

Your child will need the following:

  • Running shoes (for practices in gyms)
  • Soccer cleats (for games)
  • Shin pads
  • Water bottle
