Port Moody 01 AC Selects - Thanks for all your support!
UPDATE - June 18th
There was an enormous crowd of Port Moody supporters lining the sideline to cheer on the team. Thanks very much from the players and coaches for your support.
The Port Moody 01 AC Selects lost to Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC in a semifinal game of the Provincial Premier Cup. An early goal by Coquitlam put the AC Selects back on their heels. The first 20 minutes was played at a frantic pace with both teams desperate to score the next goal. Coquitlam added a second at the 26-minute mark to make it 2-0 but the Port Moody boys kept battling. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 32nd minute when Aaron Colbourne scored a beautiful volley from the top of the 18-yard box to make it 2-1. The momentum shifted and the next 10 minutes were dominated by the AC Selects who looked to carry that into the second half. Unfortunately, with just seconds left in the half, the CMF team were awarded a penalty after one of their players was sent through on a breakaway and was taken down inside the box. They scored to make it 3-1 just before the half-time whistle.
The Port Moody team had some chances to get one back in the second half, including a header just over the bar by Richard Culleton, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net. With Port Moody pressing to get back in the game CMF added a couple more in the second half to make it 5-1.
Though the boys are extremely disappointed about losing the semifinal, they have had an incredible season overall. Their overall record this year against MSL teams (22 games), Academy teams (4 games) and BCSPL teams (7games): 33 games, 25 wins, 6 ties, 2 losses, 113 goals for, 33 goals against. They’ve had a fantastic year and coaches Johnny Sulentic, John Colbourne, and Al Montgomery are incredibly proud of the boys.
Way to go boys!

Port Moody 01 AC Selects challenge for the Provincial Premier Cup!
They need your support! Come out and cheer them on!
The boys Metro U17 Port Moody 01 AC Selects, coached by Port Moody Soccer Club’s technical director Johnny Sulentic, have won the Provincial A Cup the last 3 years in a row. Now they have a chance to take on the BC Soccer Premier League teams in competition for the Provincial Premier Cup. The AC Selects will play a qualifying game against the lowest seeded BCSPL team after BCSPL quarter-finals sometime between June 11 and June 16 (time and location TBD). The winner of the qualifier then plays a semi-final against Coquitlam Metro Ford Slovan, the top-seeded U17 team in the province, either on June 16 or 17 in Coquitlam. The winner of the semi-final then goes on to play in the final on Vancouver Island against the other BCSPL finalist on June 23.
Though they recognize it will be an enormous challenge, the committed and talented players of the Port Moody 01 AC Selects and their dedicated coaches believe they have as good a chance as any team in the competition. They have worked hard all year to prepare for this opportunity and they will give it everything they’ve got. Anyone who has watched them play knows they have a fighting chance. In addition to their Provincial success, they have won the Metro Select League multiple times; this season they won their 4th MSL title in a row with a remarkable record of 19 wins, 2 draws, and only 1 loss.
