Player Development Program
General Information High Performance Centre Academy Goal Keeping Online Registration Contacts
The Port Moody Soccer Club invites all of its players to register for its redesigned Player Development Program. The Player Development Program focuses solely on the player development of boys and girls in the U-9 through U-18 age groups. Our year long player development program is designed for self-motivated, determined and committed players to achieve an advanced level of technical skills. These sessions will match like-skilled players for intensive and personal training with our coaches to achieve rapid development of skill.
The program focus is, above all, on individual player development with access to professional, qualified staff through our association with Coerver Coaching BC. The Coerver Coaching method has been endorsed and recommended by FIFA and UEFA along with several professional clubs, coaches, players and national federations. The staff providing the high level training for our Player Development Program include, among others, such top names as:
Bruce Twamley: Former Canadian Mens U20 and Olympic team coach, former player with Ipswich Town in England and N.Y. Cosmos.
Tod Hanvey: Former coach of the B.C. Provincial U14 Girls team and the Canada Games Wonens team.
All programs, sessions and planning are geared towards individual player development. Club teams are burdened by the fact that they often have to prepare their practices with emphasis on team development and game situations, which reduces the time available for individual player development. The Player Development Program is in addition to team practice and gives players the guarantee that they have the repetitions they need for their own development.
Our Player Development Program consists of a structured 19-week program with:
objectives for every session, designed to deliver progressions appropriate to the age group and talent
an environment with a high-level of intensity for the age group that is both challenging and fun
supports the player’s performance aspirations, with recognition of different skill levels
instruction and written evaluations to document both participant and program performance
specially designed uniforms to boost camaraderie among players and identify them as players dedicated to improving their skills
Our Player Development Program consists of two main components, (1) the High Performance Centre and (2) the Academy.
High Performance Centre (U11-U18) (top)
Our High Performance Centre is structured to support players serious about their advancement in the game and strive to play at the highest level. Attendance, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic are expected. The program is built upon a curriculum of individual player development using advanced technical and tactical training techniques. Working with Coerver, players will receive specialized training with other players of similar skill. Underachieving or uncommitted players may be moved to the Academy. Written feedback will be provided to players at the conclusion of the program.
This program is open to U11 and U12 Select team players as well as Select/Metro and Gold players from U13 to U18. Admission to the High Performance Centre by players not playing on one of these teams will be based upon special evaluations.
